Science company Fera announces annual recruitment of apprenticeships

Since introducing the Laboratory Technician apprenticeship in 2011 Fera has harnessed new talent, on-boarding, and progressing apprentices to develop their next generation of scientists.

The level 3 apprenticeship with Level 4 qualification at Fera provides on-the-job training in a leading science company, and a chance to build new and valuable skills and knowledge in a real work environment whilst gaining a recognised qualification providing the opportunity to earn while they learn in a specific job role. Fera apprentices are also paid the real living wage, from the start of the apprenticeship.

Their annual recruitment of apprentices to complete a Level 4 (HNC) in Applied Sciences with Level 3 apprenticeship, enables Fera apprentices to use a passion for science and practical mindset to kickstart their career in a dynamic and varied work environment.

Fera’s apprentices do not need experience, and the entry requirements are either a A-Level in Biology or Chemistry or Level 3 science-based qualification. The company just asks that potential apprentices bring their enthusiasm for science and a willingness to learn.

Since starting their apprenticeship scheme in 2011, Fera have continued to grow their apprenticeship offerings.

The degree level Laboratory Scientist apprenticeship was a natural next step in 2018, followed by the Digital Marketing Degree apprenticeship in 2021, the Data Scientist degree apprenticeship at level 6 and Research Scientist at level 7 (Masters) in 2022 and Business Administration in 2024.

Fera continues to monitor and evaluate new apprenticeships within the business. Key partnerships for apprenticeships are with local provider York College, and national providers Manchester Met University and Keele University.

Fera are also members of the Yorkshire and Humber Apprenticeship Ambassador Network.

The Apprenticeship Ambassador Network (AAN) is an employer-led body supported by the Department for Education. Its remit is to encourage more employers to become involved in apprenticeships across England.

Fera supports the Ambassador Network in promoting Apprenticeships providing support and mentoring other local businesses that are keen to employ an apprentice and works alongside them in the promotion of apprenticeships to local schools as a career and education route when leaving school.
