Appris, West Yorkshire’s leading provider of engineering & manufacturing apprenticeships, has partnered with Next Gen Makers in a move that will support engineering employers to bridge their skills gaps.

With over 150 member companies and 550+ apprentices across West Yorkshire, Appris is the provider of choice for the engineering industry, with a state-of-the-art training centre in Bradford.

The organisation has recently signed as a Patron Sponsor of Next Gen Makers.

Appris Charity is a not-for-profit, registered charity. Established in 1967 as a Group Training Association (GTA) that continues to be governed by engineering employers and professionals to this day.  Appris Management Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of Appris Charity Limited.

The heart of Appris’ business is apprenticeships, specialising in the delivery of engineering and manufacturing apprenticeship standards that meet the needs of the region’s strategic objectives and skills agenda.

Next Gen Makers helps UK manufacturing and engineering firms to become more successful at attracting and retaining talent within their apprenticeship schemes; via benchmarking and best practice sharing as part of their Engineering Apprenticeships: Best Practice Programme and community.

The organisation also recognises exemplar employers for engineering apprenticeships via its national ‘Engineering Apprenticeships: Employer Accreditation’ backed by leading manufacturing organisation Make UK.

The newly signed Patronship will see Appris working in close collaboration with Next Gen Makers to enable Appris’ engineering firms to benefit from accessing best practice employer resources – thus enabling them to add more structure to their apprenticeship schemes, deliver the best possible apprentice experience and become more attractive employers for aspiring engineers.

The partnership will also see Next Gen Makers’ community of employer members benefit from Appris’ training provision.

MSC Industrial Supply Co. UK, business partners of Next Gen Makers, will also assist Appris with reducing the cost of training the next generation of engineers within their workshops via exclusive discounts off industrial consumables.

On the partnership, Dean Coleman-Walker, Business Development Director at Appris comments: “This is an exciting development for Appris and its member companies. We look forward to a long partnership with Next Gen Makers to add serious value to the engineering and manufacturing companies in West Yorkshire and beyond. Appris is privileged to work with a large number of the region’s best employers and this partnership will not only accent the strong working relationships we have with them, but it will benchmark and showcase these employers to all those looking to gain a career in engineering. This is a positive step forward for West Yorkshire’s industrial hub as we move into the next chapter of apprenticeship delivery.”

Adam Tipper, Managing Director at Next Gen Makers adds: “We are delighted to announce our strategic partnership with Appris. We look forward to working closely with the team and collaborating to ultimately benefit the engineering and manufacturing firms that both organisations serve.

“The aspiration is to help more engineering and manufacturing firms that are committed to investing in apprenticeships, to become best in class employers by adopting best practice methodologies, and then give recognition to employers of choice for engineering apprenticeships.”
