Apprenticeship Units, short flexible training courses designed to upskill your existing staff in critical skill shortage areas, are now live.
Keen to know more? Here is what you need to know…
As of 28th April 2026, Skills England has announced that 10 Apprenticeship units are live, including:
- AI leadership – AI strategy and opportunity
- AI leadership – AI adoption, procurement and governance,
- AI leadership – AI delivery and organisational transformation
- Electric vehicle charging point installation and maintenance
- Electrical fitting and assembly
- Mechanical fitting and assembly
- Permanent modular building assembly
- Solar PV installation and maintenance
- Welding – mechanised
- Battery manufacturing
Apprenticeship units are delivered across 1 to 16 weeks and offer a flexible delivery model that best suits your needs. They are for your existing employees aged 19 and over who you want to upskill quickly to meet your business’s needs.
At the end of their unit, each learner will have to pass a skills test, delivered by a training provider. As the employer, you will then validate the result to confirm the learner has been successful.
They are not for new learners wanting to start a new career or occupation, standard apprenticeships are still best suited for this.
Apprenticeship Units are fully funded for all non-levy paying employers. Which means you can get started with no extra cost to your business.
To get started, Skills England advises two steps:
- Browse all the apprenticeship units on offer and identify people in your business who you want to upskill
- Look for training providers that are delivering the units you want. As Units have only just launched it could take a few weeks before you see training providers who can deliver your unit
