The UK builds over 1 million cars per year, but transport as we know it is changing.
As we move towards a low carbon future, Electric vehicles (EV) and Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV’s) will become increasingly popular.
Electric vehicles are powered by electric battery and power storage. The West Midlands is set to play an important role in the development of this technology.
Add to this the potential for hydrogen powered vehicles such as buses, trains and aircraft and it is an exciting time to be an engineer working towards the development of these new technologies in these industries.
Vehicles will not only become lighter and more environmentally friendly, but they are also set to become more intelligent.
Cutting edge technology and innovation is combining to produce the next generation of self-driving (autonomous) vehicles.
Self-driving vehicles are cars or trucks in which human drivers are never required to take control to safely operate the vehicle. Also known as autonomous or “driverless” cars, they combine sensors and software to control, navigate, and drive the vehicle.
