Mark Capell, LISI Aerospace: How benchmarking has benefitted our Apprenticeship scheme
Name: Mark Capell
Position: General Manager
Company: LISI Aerospace
How has benchmarking as part of the Engineering Apprenticeships: Best Practice Programme benefitted you?
We’ve been working with Apprentices for quite a few years but in the early days I would say it was quite ad hoc. It was quite hit and miss in terms of whether it was successful. The benefit of benchmarking our Apprenticeship Scheme is that we can share best practice, determine whether our good ideas are actually good, and we can really maximise the potential of our workforce.
Do you believe your Apprenticeships Scheme has improved since you have been involved in the Programme?
Since being involved in the Engineering Apprenticeships: Best Practice Programme I am certain that our Apprenticeship Scheme has improved. It has evolved and has stabilised. We are far more successful in finding and retaining good quality candidates.
How will having the Make UK Engineering Apprenticeships: Employer Kitemark benefit your company?
We see the benefit of having the Kitemark to our branding and also as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility programme. We engage with Schools, Colleges and the local community, and having the Kitemark will really demonstrate that we have a quality process, a quality Apprenticeship Scheme that will benefit the students at these Schools and Colleges.
Would you recommend other Engineering companies join the Engineering Apprenticeships: Best Practice Programme – and if so, why?
I would definitely recommend other businesses join the Engineering Apprenticeships: Best Practice Programme. It allows you to develop your own Apprenticeship Scheme, share best practice, learn from others and pass on knowledge that you have worked hard to gain yourselves.
